Current Track Obsession 🎧 Vol. VIII (march 14-20)

Wow, what a week it has been! Between two going away parties, a farewell concert, recording some music, AND having a cute St. Patrick's Day πŸ’š- it's been kind of nuts in our household. Not to mention Steven and I picked up laser pointers at Walmart and our kittens are going BALLISTIC. 🀣 I secretly think I'm going to leave for work tomorrow and when I return my apartment will have turned into a large kitty obstacle course.

.

But between party stuff, some photoshoots, and a tiny bit of packing- I've gotten to enjoy my "β˜€ Sunshine On The Mind β˜€" Spotify playlist and I surprisingly had a little extra time to find some really sweet tracks this week. The only downfall to that, is I have such a hard time picking out just 5 songs to share with you... I told Steven that I was going to increase it to 8 titles a week and he looked at me like I had four eyes. πŸ™ˆ

.

See to put this weekly post together I spend a lot of time listening to music, researching artists and release dates, narrowing down, and then analyzing for my blog. Sounds like a lot of work to an outsider, but I love it! ❀❀

.

Before Current Track Obsession, I still would make monthly/bi-monthly playlists and spend a lot of time looking for new music. And then at the end of the year, I would go through EACH of those playlists and find the songs that were my year's soundtrack to compile a "Best Of_" playlist. The ones that as soon as I hit play I remembered each word when I discovered it, and what was going on in my life at the time. (I know I'm a little cooky.) But this took WEEKS. Sometimes all of January. πŸ˜…

.

Now, I'm essentially creating that playlist weekly and will have my "Best Of_" at the end of 2021 without the painful process. So as you think this might be a way to share fresh beats, influential artists, emerging bands, and cool sounds it's more for me in the end. 😘 Just kidding. But it is a win, win situation!

.

So let's get to those awesome hits that I have found this week!

.

1️⃣ How Does It Feel - London Grammar

* When I think of my favorite, creative artists whose music is on another level for me, two names come to mind. Those artists are Imagine Heep and London Grammar. And boy, am I OBSESSED with this new track and entire EP from London Grammar. Having only released only last week, it has quickly taken over my March playlist. London Grammar has been in my life since college and it's been an inspiration.

As soon as I heard it come through on my Spotify Release Radar playlist I was like "This Is SUPURB" and within 15 seconds had put it into the Sunshine On The Mind playlist. When I looked at my phone I saw that this song was by THE London Grammar, it went from that playlist straight to number 1 on this week's Current Track Obsession. It's got her unique, airy vibe while giving hard-hitting, electronic mixed beats. And on top of all of that magic, it. is. catchy! It's a must-listen. When you fall in love with "How Does It Feel" check out "Hey Now," "Strong," and "Wasting My Young Years."

.

2️⃣ I See Colors - I See Colors, Evan Olmos

* Not going to lie, this is kind of my new theme song. You all know how much I love color and this song is bringing it all to life. I See Colors is a relatively new producer/artist who debuted his first single in 2019. Which I find incredibly shocking because of how sweet this track is. The addition of Evan Olmos' voice makes for a beautiful track vocally and seals the deal with a style and beat that has you smiling, bopping, and eventually dancing (sometimes without knowing you're doing it.) Give this hit a listen and then keep an eye out for what's to come from I See Colors and Evan Olmos!

.

3️⃣ Power Ranger - Pikes

* Y'all I'm so excited to introduce you to Pikes and "Power Ranger." This was another song that didn't take long to hit the Current Track Obsession top 5. Why? It's SICK! I love the cool mood and the smokey vocals with a little reverb but what makes this an obsession is the chorus. Like POWER RANGER, yes! And it is delivered so genuinely that you can't help but sing or smile every time you hear that phrase. I am so glad that this beat came into my life because I cannot wait to sit down dive into Pikes' music because I'm in love with his sound.

.

4️⃣ Change Your Mind - Oceanic

* Oceanic is where it's at. "Change Your Mind" wins the cool track of the week award. It's unique, the guitar part is killer and those chorus vocals? Are you kidding me? I'm ready for more... which won't be given to me until Oceanic releases their debut EP in late spring 2021, according to Spotify. You know I will be counting down the days until that hits my headphones. But funny enough, I've been an Oceanic fan since their second release (this is their third single) "...You" which I also recommend checking out. Keep your eye on this group. They are going to be producing some beautiful melodies.

.

5️⃣ Ranch Water - Story Slaughter

* Sometimes when I'm having a really tough time deciding between a few songs for the Current Track Obsession list, I play them for Steven. I'm ALWAYS interested to see which song he will pick and he always surprises me. This was Steven's choice and I was A-OK with that because it's really great guys. This is Story Slaughter's debut single which came out in November of 2020. Since then she has also put out "Electric Pink Guitar" which I think is also pretty fantastic, but I also have an electric pink guitar... so I could be a little bias. Anyways! I love the mix of singer-songwriter, acoustic sounds, and more synthesized beats. It's truly an infusion of Story Slaughter's Dallas roots and her current Los Angeles surroundings. One more perk, I swear, it SCREAMS spring. This is another artist you're going to want to make sure you don't forget!

.

Okay, but seriously guys, this is the tip of the iceberg and there are so many more amazing tracks where these came from! If you're liking what you're hearing this week, last week, or overall on Current Track Obsession, I highly recommend you head over to my Spotify, Rachel Brooks Peterson, and give my other playlists a listen. And if you're really impressed, think about hitting that subscribe button while you're there!

.

Honestly, though, your listening means the world to me. I love being able to promote these tracks and artists because sometimes great music can slip you by if you don't know where to look. Helping you find some of those influential songs to put a smile on your face, break out your dance moves, provoke your thoughts, or simply just feel.

.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and find a song or two that brings you to your happy place.
