Current Track Obsession 🎧 Vol. XIV

Well, as you can notice, today's Current Track Obsession is coming to you a little later than usual. It's been an eventful 24 hours in the #happilyeverpeterson #happilyevercolorado life.πŸ˜…

.

Yesterday, Steven and I had an AMAZING opportunity to model for a fantastic photographer πŸ“Έ in Twin Lakes (a gorgeous area of Colorado) which is about 2.5 hours away from our current home. We didn't mind driving because driving that long in Colorado goes by in a jiffy which so much to look at and the scenic route is every route. πŸ”

.

We were about an hour and a half away when Steven hit a pothole that took out not just one but two of the tires of our car... So we pulled off at the nearest exit to see what the damage was. Luckily for us, we were in an area with cell phone service, unlucky for us were many things: Both tires had holes in them, so we weren't going anywhere, the nearest tow truck that the insurance sent was about a two-hour wait, and we were in kind of the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, we did not make it to our second modeling shoot in Colorado. 😭

.

After a long evening of phone calls, getting hauled back to Denver by a very nice tow truck driver but in a tiny vehicle, and rescheduling our shoot- we were exhausted, which sadly left no time for Current Track Obsession last night. 🎧

.

But today life looks a little better and I need music 🎢 to get through the stressful tail of things that now have to happen in order to get our vehicles to a normal state.

.

SO let's get to some music, shall we!

.

1️⃣ Runaround - The Catalina

* Obsessed isn't even a good enough word to describe my addiction with "Runaround." I sincerely love the pop/rock/alternative/boy band vibes The Catalina is giving off in this track. It's not over-layered or trying too hard to be something other than what it is, a genuinely great song about running around love. I was not familiar with this band before Spotify sent this song through on my Discovery Weekly, and I am so thankful to Spotify for getting me hooked on them. After you give this track a listen, check out their new, chill song "Miss U Like."

.

2️⃣ Sorry To The Waitress - Leah Sykes

*A Tiny Explicit*

* So funny story about "Sorry to the Waitress" and I. It actually was meant for last week's Current Track Obsession BUT, as usual, I was doing 15 things at once and I accidentally added this track to my March playlist! Luckily it happened again this week, I caught it, and that's where I found this gem hiding!

Y'all I can't get over how GOOD this song from Leah Sykes is! Maybe it's because I can super relate to its lyrics. Before Steven I was in some not-so-great relationships, believe it or not. And on more than one occasion that person was not the nicest to me which caused me to cry in a restaurant... So I get where this situation is going. Beyond the lyrics, Leah masters a modern rock n' roll vibe that adds layers of pop and dance. I'm obsessed with the hard-hitting clap tracks and guitar strumming which add emphasis to how much of a jerk the guy is in this melody. GIVE THIS A LISTEN! ASAP!

.

3️⃣ Still In Love - The Beach

* The chorus alone in "Still In Love" is reason enough to be in love with this song by The Beach. The Beach has that familiar sound that makes you think to yourself in the first 30 seconds of the song "Oh, have I heard this track before?" But quickly you realize that this is a sound like no other. It's simple, sweet, and easy- it's almost a homeyish kind of track. One that you want to listen to all the time because it makes you feel good, but each time you play it you discover something different and something new. I'm really stoked to discover more from The Beach!

.

4️⃣ Blue & White - HYYTS

*A Tiny Explicit*

* Much like many of the songs on Current Track Obsession I found this song through my "Oh shoot, this in an older song" process! First, I discover a band through an older track, fall in love, find out that the song I've been pinning over is a few years old and that there is a newer track from this group. Then, of course, I hit that play button. Sometimes I go "Eh." and something I go "Wow." and "Blue & White" was definitely a WOW moment. I love the mood I am given by this track. The upbeat backing, fun harmonies, unique beats, and addition of multiple vocal tonal qualities just make for a song that constantly keeps you intrigued. But, if you're dying for more after checking out "Blue & White" give their other song "SOS" a listen (which is available via my April Playlist!)

.

5️⃣ When We Were Young - Jacob Sigman

* I love when one of my favorite artists or bands pulls out a new track just in time for a Current Track Obsession so I can introduce y'all to the people who have been shaping my life playlist for years! For my number 5 slot on Vol. XIV of CTO, I'd love for you to meet Jacob Sigman. I've been listening to Jacob since 2018 when he released one of his very first tracks and since then I have been keeping close tabs on him. His sound is so smooth, his lyrics are so real, and the music mood he is producing is something you want to throw on your headphones and listen to all day. It's Sunday Morning and sunshine but without the fakeness. Never have I heard a track from Jacob that I thought he was trying to be something other than what he was. And that's true artistry. Once you ooze over "When We Were Young" check out "Casual Love," "Good Morning Beauty Queen," "Golden" and like every other single track he has out. No Joke.

.

And since I made you wait a few extra hours... BONUS TRACK

6️⃣ He Said She Said - CHVRCHES

* CHVRCHES has been a HUGE part of my life for the last several years. Their music gives me goosebumps and has been so monumental in many of my life's pivotal moments. "He Said She Said" is no exception to the bands long running hit-producing streak, in my opinion. The band does such a great job at balancing an electronic, alternative sound and yet keeping the purpose of their song with lyrics at the forefront. A lot of the time I find electronic music cares about the mixing and backing to its track and throws a few words in here and there. CHVRCHES cares about both equally, it's apparent, and it makes my heart and ears happy from start to finish. Let me give you some examples, "Here With Me" (their most popular hit), "Graves," "Forever" (such an important song to me), "Miracles," and the track that started it all for me "Leave A Trace" which was released in 2015.

.

And that's it! This week's Current Track Obsession is the last of April! Woah! That's three solid months of CTO and I could not be more blown away by the support this playlist/blog post series has gained. πŸ’“πŸ’“ It means the world to me when someone comments or DMs me that they found a new favorite song from one of my playlists or a new artist/band that has had a huge impact on their life. That's why I do this! Because I feel like music is meant to be shared. It needs to be shared. And this is how I can help that along. 🎡🎹

.

THIS SUNDAY check out April's roundup of the 5️⃣ most influential moments to come out of the last month of Current Track Obsession volumes!
