I'm a Modern Girl in the Comparison World.
It's International Women's Day! What a beautiful day dedicated to celebrating the female gender, and anyone who identifies with it, for everything that we are and everything that makes us unique. I. Am. Here. For. It! 👏
But sometimes it's easier to say "Empowered Women Empower Women" when actually you're comparing yourself to that other woman. 🤷♀️ Trust me, I've been there more times than I can count. I LOVE supporting others like I will be your biggest cheerleader, but sometimes I find myself even playing the "Am I Good Enough" game because another human being is rocking life.
These moments come out when...I hear someone killing a song I usually sing for auditions, an influencer produces amazing content far beyond my skill level, another person looks way skinner and/or more fit than I do, so on and so forth. Thus this creates one of my biggest goals for 2021... 💕
"To view others as inspiration instead of competition." ✨
I'm not going to say it's been an easy path, but so far I've become super mindful of when I'm having moments of self-doubt due to someone else succeeding. I also try to embrace a person's strengths as a teaching tool instead of something that I a) could never accomplish or b) could never be as good as them in.
I'll give you an example.
Okay- so I'm on Instagram a lot these days, as I'm sure you all know. 😅 And before I was really aware that I did a lot of comparing, I would rarely follow an "influencer" or someone "bigger" than me because I hated seeing their posts come up in my feeding and thinking "Ugh. I will never be that good in _____." So I would dismiss anything of value they had to offer. 😭
But as of late, I've been following any account that is inspiring to me, especially those that have similar photography and editing styles to Steven and mine. 🌈 And now, when their posts come up in my feed, I take note of what makes the photo or content so good and attractive to a big following. I also watch their lives and stories where they provide behind the scenes and invest in their email lists and blogs. And I have learned so much in the past weeks just from taking an interest in what they have to say rather than tearing down what I have to say too.
And because I've welcomed their brands and voices, I feel like it has only helped build mine and develop what sets me apart and makes me unique. ❤
I still have a long way to go to fully embody the supportive female I long to be. But I'm working on it every day!
If you're working on this journey also, know you're not alone. If you're thinking about this, then know we all started there, and if you've been through this personal growth experience, YOU ROCK! 💖
And one last little tidbit, one thing I constantly try to remind myself when questioning my worthiness is, there is room for all of us in this wide and vast blooming, colorful garden. So let's celebrate it! 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌼🥀🌻
